One dead, one hospitalized in East Bay vehicle-pedestrian collisions

One person died and a man suffered major injuries Thursday in separate vehicle-pedestrian collisions in Fremont and Union City, authorities said.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., Fremont Fire Department firefighters responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 37200 block of Fremont Boulevard between Peralta Boulevard and Bonde Way in the city’s Centerville district.

Fremont police also responded, advising drivers and residents at 5:55 p.m. of a fatality at the scene, and to avoid northbound Fremont Boulevard lanes between those two roadways. All northbound lanes reopened shortly before 6:15 p.m.

Police did not provide additional details on the fatality Thursday night. Anyone with information may call Fremont police at 510-790-6800.

In a separate incident, Union City police responded around 4:07 p.m. to Whipple Road and Medallion Drive for a vehicle-pedestrian collision report.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from major injuries after a collision with an unidentified vehicle. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and his condition was not available Thursday night.

The vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene, did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and cooperated with investigators, police said.
