Construction worker killed at California elementary school after argument, police say

A man was killed after an argument between two construction workers at a Whittier elementary school led to one striking the other with a truck on Tuesday, police said.

Officers were called around 1 p.m. to Jordan Elementary School for a reported traffic collision on the campus, said Whittier Police Officer Thomas Mattsson. An investigation determined that two coworkers on the construction site on campus had gotten into a fight that escalated with one worker striking the other with a work truck.

The victim, only publicly identified as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday evening.

School was not in session and the campus was closed due to the summer break.

The Lowell Joint School District declined to discuss what happened, but said that the Erickson Hall Construction Company had been contracted to oversee the site. It was not immediately clear what the construction project included, and the construction company did not respond to a request for comment.
