Our new daily feature on the Orlando Pirates is dubbed Transfer Signing of the Day. Since the year 2000, we reflect on every successful Sea Robbers transfer.
On 26 October 2014, Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down at his girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, just as he was reaching the pinnacle of his profession.
According to Transfermarkt, the 17-year-old goalkeeper from Umlazi was signed from the Bucs’ development squad in 2005.
He waited patiently on the sidelines until 2009, when Roger de Sa gave him his big opportunity. Meyiwa won the league championship in 2011 and 2012.
‘Nzori’ also won the Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup, and MTN8 during the Sea Robbers’ golden period.
Prior to his death at the age of 27, he collected seven Bafana Bafana caps.
